Is your back pocket hurting from all the games you've been buying? You're not alone. Playing games can be a bit of an expensive hobby. But, I've got a little virtual ice pack for you.

In this article, I'll share several easy ways that you can get some free games on GOG.com (aka Good Old Games).

What is GOG.com?

If you're a gamer and you've never heard of Good Old Games (GOG) before, you've probably been living under a rock! (Or just spending way too much time buried in your game backlog).

GOG is a digital distribution platform for video games (like Steam or the Epic Games Store) that offers an awesome library of classic and modern games to download.

It's been around a long time and originally began as a place to purchase updated classics from the 80s and 90s that work for modern PCs. These days it also offers many of the latest games as well as other unique content downloads you can't get elsewhere.

Ways to Get Free GOG Games

Firstly, I'd like to point out that there are no secret ways (at least that I know of!) to legitimately get all your wishlist games for free in a few clicks. GOG doesn't frequently give out free games, and usually, they aren't the very latest-released games either.

However, if you're open to playing some classic games or games different from your typical genre, you're going to be in for hours of fun.

So here are 6 ways you can acquire some free games on your GOG account.

1. GOG's Free Game Collection

By far this is the easiest and most straightforward way to find the free games that GOG offers. In fact, you're bound to find something that you'll like because there are heaps of classic and modern indie games you can get for free already in their store.

Alternatively, you can search their store for all the free content by applying some filters: "Show only free games" & "Hide DLCs and extras" (as seen in the picture below). Applying these filters will show all the free games and game demos available to you.

Circled are filters set to show free game & demo offerings.

After going through those lists you might already have several games now added to your account to try, but let's look at some more ways to bag some free games.

2. Summer & Winter Events

Like other platforms, GoG has regular sales throughout the year including summer and winter season events - which are some of the biggest sales of the year alongside Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

During these sales, GOG sometimes has some limited-time free game promotions which you can snap up. Keep an eye out for these sales and make you're subscribed to their emails so you'll be notified about them.

You can see how to make sure you're subscribed and read about the other great benefits of doing so here.

3. Reddit GameDeals

Another place to keep an eye on is the /r/GameDeals channel on Reddit.

This is one of the best places to go if you want to keep up-to-date with the latest and greatest gaming deals around the internet, including free promotions on GOG.com.

As these deals are crowd-sourced, so be sure to read the comments and check if the link posted is a legitimate GOG link or if there are any extra conditions.

4. GOG Community Key Giveaways

One easily overlooked place to find free games is the GOG Community forums. Members run giveaway topics where you can request one of the available game keys that have been graciously donated by other members.

Visit this forum and look for the giveaway threads in the list. Here is one such thread.

5. Buy Games with Earnings from Surveys

If you're looking to get free games on GOG.com without spending your own money but still want to aim for games you really want. There are several websites and apps that allow you to earn gift cards or money through PayPal by completing surveys or other small tasks.

Three great options are...

  1. PrizeRebel
PrizeRebel is a survey website where you can complete surveys for gift cards or money through PayPal. You can start earning pretty much straight away and there is always a good selection of surveys to choose from.
  2. PureProfile
PureProfile is another great choice for earning from surveys. They offer a better pay rate than others and you can get paid directly to your bank account!
  3. SwagBucks
One of the most popular sites for earning online is non-other than SwagBucks. They have different ways to earn, not just surveys and heaps of different rewards available!

6. Prime Gaming

If you happen to be subscribed to Amazon Prime, you have another avenue to score some occasional free GOG games (among other sites).

As an Amazon Prime subscriber, you'll gain access to Prime Gaming, a place where Amazon gives out free games weekly. Sometimes they give away redemption keys for games on GOG, so be sure to check for any new offerings each week.

Final Thoughts

I hope these methods of getting free GOG games have been helpful. While getting free games is awesome, you may not get the games you truly desire. My recommendation is if you can hold off from buying it, you will surely find a great discount in time.

You can save heaps by not buying games when they are released (as long as you don't spoil them by watching others play them! 😂). It'll be just as fun months or more later and maybe even less buggy as buying a game on release day.

If there are other ways you get free GOG games, be sure to shoot me an email and I'll add it to this list.
